  About

  Speeches

Since the age of 5, Sejahari has used creative writing, directing, movement, music, and fashion to investigate the complexities of the human condition existing as an African and Mexican American artist born and raised on the West Side of Chicago. His work is rooted in a lifelong commitment to exploring how people imagine, heal, and liberate themselves through a medium-fluid practice. From performing at Coachella Music Festival at the age of 12 as a Hip-Hop/House dancer, to having his gallery debut at the Southbank Center in London as a rapper/filmmaker, Sejahari continues to sharpen his perspective through collaborating with artists and brands from around the world, some of which include Adidas, Steve Madden, Wyclef Jean, The Kennedy Center, Levi’s and more. He was recently awarded the Public Poets Fellowship 2024-2025 wherein he taught workshops centering narrative change and social justice. With a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and two masters degrees, one in Race, Media and Social Justice, and the other in Filmmaking, Sejahari is the embodiment of the multidisciplinary Gen Z artist, using his work to uplift, inspire and connect with the world.

Hip Hop Theater & Embodied Storytelling Hip Hop Theater blends spoken word, movement, rhythm, and performance to explore how stories live not only in language, but also in the body. Through interactive exercises in voice, movement, and the cipher, participants learn to transform personal experiences into powerful performances while building confidence, authenticity, and a deeper connection to their creative expression.

PRIMARY: Writing Through Memory & the Senses Our most meaningful stories often live within memory. Using color, emotion, and sensory experience as creative entry points, participants explore how sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch can unlock deeper layers of storytelling. Through guided writing exercises, participants transform lived experiences into vivid poetry and narrative while developing new tools for creative exploration and self-expression.

Multidisciplinary Story Lab: One Idea, Many Forms What happens when the same story is expressed through different artistic mediums? In this hands-on workshop, participants explore a single theme, such as identity, belonging, memory, or transformation, through multiple creative forms including poetry, music, movement, film, photography, or visual art. By translating ideas across disciplines, participants discover new ways of creating meaning while expanding their artistic voice and creative toolkit.
