How do we reimagine teaching and learning that provides education for the mind, body, and spirit?
Human rights activist and educator Ericka Huggins was Director of the Black Panther Party’s model, community-based, elementary school -- Oakland Community School (OCS) -- from 1973 - 1982.
In this SpeakOut Ed Talks webinar, she draws on that experience as well as her decades of work in education and community organizing to explore ways in which educators and students can reimagine both in-person and virtual environments that are open, adaptable, positive, inclusive, and student-centered.
If this model school was established in the 1970's without smart devices, social media, and the collection of tuition, and continues to have impact, IMAGINE what can be created, together, in the 21st century, in collaboration with young people and educators, scholars of color, and tech champions.
