Brave New Voices includes some of the brightest young performance poets nationwide. Between the ages of 18 and 30, each member has garnered attention in the national arena, from showcases on HBO's Def Poetry, to feature articles in Teen People and Newsweek.
Bring a pair or trio of poets to perform. Any combination of Brave New Voices brandishes both Hip Hop sensibility and immaculate writing. The poets aim to unnerve and electrify students and youth ever slanted towards apathy. After all, who's better to instigate young people to movement than a crew of their verbally gifted peers?
Brave New Voices is a project of Youth Speaks, a nationally acclaimed non-profit organization founded in 1996. Presenters of local and national youth poetry slams, festivals, reading series, and more, Youth Speaks offers a comprehensive slate of literary arts education and youth development programs. Youth Speaks works with 45,000 teens per year in the San Francisco Bay Area alone, and has created partner programs in 36 cities across the United States. At Youth Speaks, the voices of youth matter.
