The performance crew headRush is made up of three educators from Oakland, California - Rosa González, Simón Hanukai and Luis (Xago) Juarez - who came together to inspire social action through guerrilla-style performance.
headRush combines elements of Xicano theatre and spoken word to create a unique rush of satirical commentary. They write all their poems and skits to bring awareness to current issues and make powerful historical connections.
Dedicated to education and empowerment, headRush makes complex issues relevant and accessible to diverse audiences. In so doing, they engage playfully with their subjects onstage while promoting collaboration and dialogue with individuals and organizations offstage.
headRush is the recipeint of the prestigious Sally and Don Lucas Artist in Residency program at Montalvo Arts Center in California.
After making their debut in September 2003, headRush has been going strong, performing at colleges, universities, high schools, cafés, theaters, open mics, hip-hop and comedy shows, political events, and the streets with their original style and unique high-energy shows.
