La Paz is a collective of musical talents. Its core members are Ricardo Chavez (Rap Vocalist / Producer) and Guellermo Ybarra (Rap Vocalist). La Paz's songs range from upbeat party tracks to more socially-conscious pieces that get people thinking. All that and everything in between is the basic concept.
La Paz means “Peace,” a principal the members stand for and which is so rare in the rap world of today. Both Ybarra and Chavez grew up in the heart of the Chicano movement. Ricardo Chavez is nephew of legendary farm labor leader Cesar Chavez and the son of Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union. Guillermo’s father was Cesar’s confidant and most trusted friend. Coming from roots like that, “the crew's got knowledge to drop.”
La Paz has released 3 CDs – “Earwigs” was their debut album, full of truth-soaked social consciousness followed by a seven track EP entitled “New and Unreleased.” Their latest CD is “The Bakery,” a spirited, party-driven album featuring songs with a unique outlook on ordinary life, blending the personal with the political.
La Paz has performed extensively throughout California, on campuses, clubs and at festivals and conferences. Now they're taking their beats nationwide, reaching young people with their positive message of social justice and high-energy shows. No doubt this crew is different - offering a glimpse of the future of urban music that leaves no stone unturned in search for Peace, La Paz.
